October 9, 2012You may have heard that the Government has decided to introduce VAT on self-storage. As of the 1st October 2012 unfortunately the self-storage industry will have to start charging VAT to all their customers who rent self-storage spaces. In order to assist our customers and provide you with all the relevant information we have devised a number of FAQ’s to ensure you are clued up on the new VAT legislation.
So Why Has It Been Introduced?
Good Question! Whether it’s a tax on pasties or self-storage there needs to be a valid reason behind it, so what does the Government have to say about it? Well they believe by bringing in the VAT they are bringing equality throughout the self-storage industry, this may well be a factor. Another factor is basically that it’s another tax to collect and another way to aid the reduction of the deficit.

July 16, 2012More and more people are turning to growing their own vegetables and it’s easy to see why, as your putting your own food on your own table, cutting down on costs, learning, exercising and above all – having a whole lot of fun in the process! Growing veg is also about community and a wholesome lifestyle, and no more so than when using a patch in allotments, surrounded by like-minded people all inside a hive of ideas and inspiration. But how do you get from the seed, through to the roots and onto the table? Here at Arden Self-Grow, we have put together some helpful top tips.
When to start Growing
It’s always a great time to start growing your own vegetables; however it is definitely best to start in Autumn or Early Winter, as it means that all of your crops will begin to flourish in the New Year. Meaning that there couldn’t be a better time to get your own allotment here at Arden Self Grow, as Autumn is just around the corner and you can spend the time in between setting everything up. (Although our service ensures that each new customer’s plot will be thoroughly prepared and ready to plant on – with free farm manure able to be supplied).
Get Inventive when Fighting the Pests
There’s no need to employ an exterminator as you will want to keep things natural when tending to your allotment and staving off the pests, because after all, one of the best thing about growing vegetables is knowing that they are free of pesticides and any chemicals. To shoo away snails set up a beer trap and to avoid birds snacking on your precious parsnips or pumpkins, get even more inventive by hanging CD’s from high bamboo sticks (the constantly reflecting light should keep them at bay!)
